Ebisu

Where Tokyo actually goes out to eat

Ebisu is quietly one of the best food neighbourhoods in Tokyo. Ebisu Yokocho gives you the full yokocho experience, shoulder to shoulder under one roof, and the streets around the station hide izakayas that locals guard jealously. The Yebisu Garden Place tower has a free observation floor most visitors never hear about.

Ebisu is where Tokyo professionals actually eat and drink, which makes it one of the most reliable food neighbourhoods in the city. The name comes from the beer: the whole district grew up around the Yebisu brewery, and the brand's museum and beer hall still anchor Garden Place. The west side of the station is wall-to-wall izakayas, wine bars and some of the city's most decorated ramen.

Ebisu Yokocho, a covered market alley reborn as a food hall of twenty micro-restaurants, is the rowdy heart, all shared tables and shochu. For the opposite mood, the free 38th-floor view from Garden Place Tower at dusk is one of Tokyo's best-kept evening secrets.

Getting there
