A weekly index of what a hotel night actually costs in each of Tokyo's neighbourhoods, sampled automatically from live booking searches. Medians, not averages, so one five-star outlier cannot skew an area. Free to cite.

Method
- When: sampled once a week, on Tuesdays. Latest snapshot 19 September 2026.
- Dates searched: a 2-night stay checking in 30 days after the sampling date (currently 19 October 2026 to 21 October 2026), for two adults.
- Where: a box roughly 1.2 km across centred on the hand-picked places in each of the 16 neighbourhood guides, so the sample reflects where visitors actually spend their time rather than an administrative ward.
- Source: live accommodation searches through Stay22, which aggregates suppliers such as Booking.com, Expedia and Hotels.com. For each property the cheapest nightly rate across suppliers is kept, as quoted at search time.
- Statistics: minimum, 25th percentile, median and 75th percentile per area, rounded to whole dollars. Medians rather than averages, so a single luxury property cannot move an area's figure.
- Sample sizes: each search returns at most 40 listings, ranked cheapest first, so the figures describe the budget-to-mid part of each market. The sampled column shows the exact count behind every row. Areas with fewer than 5 listings are marked with an asterisk and left out of the cheapest and priciest summaries. Areas returning no listings are skipped for that week rather than recorded as zero.
- History: each area keeps its last 26 weekly snapshots. The 4-week change compares the current median with the snapshot nearest to 28 days earlier, and shows n/a until one exists.

How is the Tokyo hotel price index calculated?
Every week the index draws a box roughly 1.2 km across around the hand-picked places in each of the 16 neighbourhood guides and runs a Stay22 accommodation search for a two-night stay starting 30 days later. For each property the cheapest nightly rate across the suppliers Stay22 returns is kept, and the neighbourhood is summarised by its minimum, 25th percentile, median and 75th percentile. Medians are used instead of averages so one luxury outlier cannot move an area's figure. Each search returns at most 40 listings ranked cheapest first, so the figures describe the budget-to-mid part of each market.
How often is the index updated, and can the numbers be cited?
The index refreshes every Tuesday and each neighbourhood keeps its last 26 weekly snapshots. It currently holds 1 snapshot, taken on 19 September 2026.
