Kairyoyu
Shibuya, Tokyo
Kairyoyu is a designer sento between Shibuya and Ebisu, rebuilt in 2018 by the architect Kentaro Imai. You'll spot it by the huge whale painted on the outside wall. Inside there's a big carbonated bath, a medium bath and a cold bath, all in soft water, plus a far-infrared sauna.

What the guides say about Kairyoyu
Thermae-yu in Kabukicho is the 24-hour onsen complex, with spring water trucked in from Naka-Izu. For a sento in Shinjuku, Koganeyu Shinjuku opened in July 2026 with a bar at the front counter. Kairyoyu, between Shibuya and Ebisu, is the designer one with a whale painted on the outside. Komyosen in Nakameguro has an open-air bath on its roof, which swaps between the men's and women's sides every Friday.

The crossing is just the cover page
Everyone does the Scramble, and you should too, once. But Shibuya's real personality lives in the smaller streets. It's in Nonbei Yokocho's two-storey bars pressed against the train tracks, the climb up to the rooftop views, and the walk down towards Daikanyama as the noise fades behind you.
Shibuya has 14 places on the Roam Tokyo map: 4 shops, 2 viewpoints, 2 bars, 2 cafes, 2 restaurants, 1 landmark and 1 bathhouse. Read the Shibuya guide.
