The Suginami Animation Museum is a free museum on the third floor of Suginami Kaikan, run by Tokyo Polytechnic University. A timeline walks you through the history of Japanese anime, there's a dubbing corner where you can try voicing a scene yourself, and the theatre shows anime on a 200-inch screen. Special exhibitions on one studio or series change three or four times a year.

Take a Kanto Bus from the north exit of Ogikubo station to Ogikubo Keisatsusho-mae (about 5 minutes), then walk 2 minutes. The walk takes about 20 minutes. Everything's free, the theatre and the anime library included. It's closed on Mondays, or the next weekday when Monday is a holiday, and the staff speak Japanese only.
