Founded in 1627, this is Tokyo's largest Hachiman shrine and the birthplace of officially sanctioned sumo, which held shogunate-approved tournaments here from 1684. The grounds hold sumo monuments and Japan's biggest portable shrine, a 4-ton gold-covered mikoshi.
