Pintology
Sasazuka, Tokyo
Pintology is a small craft beer and whisky bar three minutes from Sasazuka station, opened in 2022 by Kyle, who's American, and Yuki, who's Japanese. Twelve taps of Japanese and international craft beer, a world whisky shelf, and cans and bottles to drink in or take home, in a room that doubles as a neighbourhood arts space with live music, DJ and vinyl nights, and drink-and-draw evenings. It's Daniel's local, where most of his Sasazuka evenings end, and where he and his wife held their engagement celebration.
Insider tip
No table charge, and the whole bar is non-smoking. The taps change often, so ask Kyle or Yuki what just went on. It opens at 3pm and closes on Tuesdays. Check @pintologytokyo on Instagram for event nights, which are the liveliest.

Daniel's stop on the Keio Line
Sasazuka is Daniel's Tokyo neighbourhood, one stop from Shinjuku on the Keio Line and nowhere near the tourist map. It's an ordinary, brilliant slice of residential Tokyo. There's a station mall, a shotengai, standing sushi you'll queue for, and Mil Tacos, the tiny taco joint where he held his wedding dinner. No neighbourhood on this site carries more weight.
Sasazuka has 5 places on the Roam Tokyo map: 2 restaurants, 1 bar, 1 landmark and 1 bathhouse. Read the Sasazuka guide.
