Komyosen
Nakameguro, Tokyo
Komyosen is a family-run sento 3 minutes from Nakameguro station, in its 45th year and run by three generations. A 2014 renovation gave it a white-and-wood entrance, a carbonated bath, a sauna and an open-air bath on the roof, where you look straight up at the sky.
Insider tip
Wash at the taps before you get in, and keep your small towel out of the water. The rooftop bath swaps between the men's and women's sides every Friday, so check the notice on its site if you want it. Open 3pm to 1am (last entry 12:30am), with irregular closing days.

Thermae-yu in Kabukicho is the 24-hour onsen complex, with spring water trucked in from Naka-Izu. For a sento in Shinjuku, Koganeyu Shinjuku opened in July 2026 with a bar at the front counter. Kairyoyu, between Shibuya and Ebisu, is the designer one with a whale painted on the outside. Komyosen in Nakameguro has an open-air bath on its roof, which swaps between the men's and women's sides every Friday.

Canal-side cafes and the best evening sakura in Tokyo
Nakameguro is built around its canal, and it's the canal that sets the pace. Slow walks, good coffee, boutiques you browse rather than raid. During cherry blossom season the Meguro River becomes the single best evening hanami spot in the city, with the lit blossoms reflecting in the water. The backstreets behind the main strip still feel local.
Nakameguro has 7 places on the Roam Tokyo map: 2 restaurants, 2 cafes, 1 bar, 1 neighbourhood and 1 bathhouse. Read the Nakameguro guide.
