Spa LaQua is the onsen complex inside Tokyo Dome City, fed by an amber, very salty hot spring pumped from 1,700 metres down. There's an outdoor bath at two temperatures, a row of saunas with scheduled aufguss sessions, and floors of lounges and restaurants. It's a modern leisure spa, so expect crowds on weekends.

Nearest station Korakuen (Marunouchi / Namboku)
Cost ¥¥¥
Time needed 2-4 hours
Best time Weekday evenings after 7pm

Insider tip

Adults pay from ¥3,500 depending on the date, or ¥1,000 less if you check in after 7pm, and the towel set and loungewear are included. No tattoos at all, and that includes body paint and sticker tattoos. Under-6s aren't admitted, and 6 to 17 year olds need a guardian and must leave by 6pm.

The water is often the selling point, but read the small print. Spa LaQua and Tokyo Somei Onsen Sakura pump their own springs. Thermae-yu trucks its water in from Naka-Izu, and the Toyosu Manyo Club brings its from Hakone and Yugawara by tanker. They're also stricter about tattoos and young children. Spa LaQua turns away under-6s, and Somei Onsen Sakura won't let them use the baths.
