Punk, vintage and Awa Odori, one stop west of Nakano

Koenji is Shimokitazawa's scrappier, more committed sibling, with cheaper rents, more than a hundred vintage shops, record stores, live houses and cheap bars under the train tracks. It's where Tokyo's punk and underground music scenes put down roots, and every August it hosts one of the city's biggest summer dance festivals.

Koenji has 6 places on the Roam Tokyo map: 3 shops, 1 restaurant, 1 shrine or temple and 1 bathhouse. Read the Koenji guide.
