Koganeyu
Ryogoku, Tokyo
Koganeyu is a design-led sento near Kinshicho, one stop from Ryogoku, reopened in 2020. The bathroom wall is a picture-scroll mural by Yoriko Hoshi, the creator of Kyou no Nekomura-san, and the front counter doubles as a bar with craft beer and a DJ booth. It also opens 6am to 9am for a morning bath.
Insider tip
Wash at the taps before you get in, and keep your small towel out of the water. Shampoo and body soap are free. There's an auto-löyly sauna on the men's side and a cypress self-löyly sauna on the women's. Hours are 6am to 9am and 11am to 12:30am, closed the second and fourth Mondays. It's 6 minutes from Kinshicho's north exit.
